I Treated My Cancer Like a Job — And I Clocked Out When I Was Done
How setting boundaries during treatment helped me stay grounded and keep a sense of normalcy.
When I was going through cancer treatment, I made a decision early on: I was going to treat it like a job. Not something that would take over my whole life—just something I had to show up for and get through.
Every appointment, scan, or treatment was like a shift. I’d show up, do what needed to be done, ask questions, and stay on top of things. But once it was over for the day, I clocked out—mentally and emotionally.
That mindset helped me create some space between the medical side of things and the rest of my life. It gave me permission to focus on other things when I got home—family, rest, work, or just normal life stuff.
Cancer was something I had to deal with, but it wasn’t going to be my whole identity. Treating it like a job helped me manage it without letting it take over.
